Wrecking

A constructive or total loss. The initial determination of whether a ship is to be salvaged or declared a constructive loss goes beyond the technical aspects and cost of refloating. The decision considers such factors as cost and probability of success in transit to a repair yard and the cost of repairs. In a remote area distant from salvage services and repair yards, a simple stranding may turn into a constructive total loss.
