Powerhead


A term that describes different things depending upon the engine manufacturer:
  1. The complete engine of an outboard propulsion unit is called a Powerhead. The engine block and other engine parts are separate items. (Traditional usage)
  2. On Mercury Jet inboard engines (circa 2000+) the complete engine is called a Powerhead. The engine block and other engine components are separate items.
  3. On Volvo outdrive units (circa 2000+) the upper unit gears including the cone clutch is called a Powerhead.
